Rag Rug Cleaning
A steady flow of handmade rag rugs and manufactured rag rugs comes through our rug cleaning company.
The distinctive characteristic of rag rugs, the part that makes them decorative, gives the rag rug its name, and bears the foot traffic, is the weft. The weft of a rug runs from side to side.
Handmade rag rugs often incorporate pieces of discarded clothing and household linens to make the wefts. They are held together by thin yarns or strings that weave over and under the wefts holding them together.
The rag rug design has been incorporated in manufactured designer rugs .
Rag rugs are often made entirely of cotton, an absorbent fiber. Like blue jeans or t-shirts, rag rugs need to be washed to be clean.
Because most rag rugs are made of cotton, a thorough rag rug cleaning requires rug washing. If you wish to clean rag rugs yourself you should know the bright reds and dark blues or blacks will probably bleed. These colors – or technically speaking, combinations of dyes – tend to be the most unstable when used in cotton rag rugs.
